Wiarton Rotary in Cameroon

For over 20 years, the Rotary Club of Wiarton has worked with over 40 other Rotary Clubs to make a significant impact in Cameroon, Africa.  Together we are the 'Hand Up' committee and we have partnered with Rotary Clubs and NGO's in Cameroon to provide clean water to over 200,000 people at a cost of under $3.00/person.  We have also funded agricultural training to ensure a sufficient supply of food in very rural and poor areas of the country.  We give people an opportunity to be independent, earn their own way and to educate their children for a better tomorrow.

Most recently the Rotary Club of Wiarton has partnered with the Rotary Club of Kumbo and an NGO, SHUMAS, to provide clean water, latrines and solar power to schools in a rural area.  We also provided chickens, feed and training in raising them to farmers in the Ngie region.

Toilets in schools have gone from this to this....

Training is given in raising chickens and co-ops are formed to help

the farmers get them to market.

Solar power brings so many possibilities.

It looks like a simple light bulb but it is

brightness where there has been none.

Students can now attend school.  Previously they were needed to work in the fields and fetch water.  The future is bright thanks to the 'Hand Up' that they have received.

Our Rotarian and NGO partners make it all possible.  We could

not complete these projects without them.
